Promoting Positive Behaviour

At Willow Nursery we help prepare children to become kind, respectful and responsible members of society.

We support children to:

• Develop positive relationships with others
• Show kindness and respect
• Care for their environment
• Look after books, toys and equipment in the nursery

Our staff promote positive behaviour by using clear and encouraging language that helps children understand expectations.

For example, we say:

• “Remember to use walking feet.” (instead of “Stop running.”)
• “Remember to use kind hands.” (instead of “Stop hitting.”)
• “Remember to use your quiet voice inside.” (instead of “Stop shouting.”)

Using positive language helps children learn appropriate behaviour while feeling supported. It also helps them understand what they should do, rather than focusing only on what they should stop doing.
